As promised, this is a day for counting blessings. The fact it falls on Veteran’s Day is perfect!
Thank you, veteran, for your service to our country. We are indeed blessed to live in a nation where people choose the armed services and put their safety on the line to protect our freedom.
This is a sincere thank you from me to you. You are a blessing!

There is a hymn with words by Johnson Oatman, Jr., and music by Edwin O. Excell that shares the title of this post.
You’re probably familiar with the chorus:
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
Once you start the process of counting your blessings, the list becomes incredible. I’m going to take a couple minutes to list the first blessings that come to my mind:
- Blue sky and sunshine
- Rain to keep things green
- A faithful husband
- Two healthy sons
- Loving daughters
- Precious grandchildren
- Cats who curl up on my lap and purr
- Food to eat
- Good health
- A warm and comfortable home
I could continue. So could you. Maybe your blessings are different. But think about these words from the rest of this hymn. Even when were are facing hard things, there are still many blessings from the Lord. Innumerable blessings.
When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged thinking all is lost
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
County your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
So amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count you many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.
Will join me in counting YOUR blessings today? I’d love to see them in the comments.
