We live in a world where too many children are orphans. Many of them have a mother and father but are not nurtured by those people. Others have two sets of parents but no clear guidance from any of them.
God has always promised to be a father to the fatherless. In the Law of Moses, he makes provision for orphans and widows. And we couldn’t ask for a better father.
“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up”
–Psalm 27:10
My relationship with my earthly father is nearly non-existent. Before my parents divorced, my father might as well have been absent. He buried himself in reading and watching television and brushed away all my attempts to be near him or converse with him.
Millions of people in our world have had a similar relationship (or one made worse by abuse) with their father. I’m not looking for pity. This deficit in my heart and life qualifies me to reach those in similar situations with happy tidings.
God will be a true father to you.
When you’ve never had a father, those are just words. Empty and meaningless words. How can you appreciate the unconditional and everlasting love of God the Father when you’ve never experienced adoration from your physical dad?
It’s an amazing journey. Other men stepped into my life to wrap their arms around me when my own father would not. Some were healthy relationships and others were destructive. It took time and experience for me to discern the difference.
Here’s what God promises you:
- Good gifts
- Eternal life
- Everlasting love
- A place in the family of God
- Heirship alongside his Son, Jesus Christ
- Peace and joy
- An indestructible home in Heaven
These are things earthly fathers should be providing in this realm. If you’ve never experienced any of this, you can. Come to Jesus for salvation. God will adopt you on the spot. Better yet, he will never cast you off. Once you are His child, nothing can change that.
Happy Father’s Day to all the physical fathers reading this post. To my heavenly Father, every day is perfect for showing my gratitude to you.
