…Old things are passed away…all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 c KJV
My favorite thing about turning the calendar over to a new year is the feeling that I’ve got a fresh start. Is it true? Are all things new because it’s a new year?
No.
The verse that opens this post relates the only time a person gets a clean slate and a fresh start. That happens the moment God makes us a new creation in Jesus Christ.
The good news? If you’ve had that fresh start moment with God, the feeling of newness can be duplicated.
For me, it happens when I honestly humble myself, confess my sins and failures, and ask for God’s forgiveness and grace to do better next time. When I stand up from that prayer closet moment, I feel new again.
God loves fresh starts. He knows what it’s like to look at a blank canvas and feel the creative urge to make something beautiful.
I pray 2023 will be exactly that: a blank canvas.
I want my life to paint God’s glory every moment. When others see my smile or read my words, I pray they will be encouraged to draw close to the Lord and find their own new beginnings.
It’s a new year. You can start with a clean slate.
I plan to write a story that honors God on the blank page of 2023. What about you? What will you do with all things new?
